Their day was relaxed with a rustic and winter wonderland feel.
Gemma and Kieran got married at Christmas at the spectacular Lains Barn, which is a shabby chic barn in Wantage, Oxfordshire. It was the most beautiful wedding and even the weather played ball for this rustic Christmas wedding!
Gemma got ready at home with her close family, and the atmosphere was full of excitement. Bucks fizz was free flowing as was the food. Gemma’s mum and mother in law made sure that we were all well fed with sandwiches and fruit.
The ceremony was a beautiful service in the barns main hall. There were fairy lights hanging from the ceiling, and there was a stunning Christmas tree overlooking the main hall. Gemma and Kieran had also personalised the barn and made is all cosy with cushions. During the ceremony they had a beautiful reading. It was so meaningful and so personal. Their daughter was very emotional after they were announced as husband and wife. There was a very touching moment of the three of them hugging. My eyes weren’t dry, and I’m sure many others were the same.
The reception was in the main hall at the venue. They chose Lains Barn because it’s cosy and relaxed and they just fell in love with it. They had planned a relaxed and rustic wedding, which really suited the venue and also them as a couple. I love shooting rustic weddings because the photo opportunities are endless. Lains Barn clearly know a thing or two about weddings. They were very organised and made sure everything ran as it should, the staff were very friendly too. The photo opportunities there are just stunning as well.
They had drinks and canapes in the afternoon, and a photobooth in the evening. They decorated the venue with cushions, fairy lights, cake pops and laser cut wood pieces, it all worked so well with the time of year. I loved the little laser cut wood pieces they had on the tables. They looked very rustic and something I’ve not seen at a wedding before.
For dinner they had pie and mash, which was yummy. I loved the addition of the pie masters to serve the pie. Each table had one and we got them all together for a photo. It was a fun way to serve the meal and really added to the day. The first dance was beautiful. I found out during the day that Gemma and Kieran had had a dance lesson to learn a routine for their first dance. It had the desired impact on their guests.
The most memorable part of the day was the dancing, because some of the moves I witnessed were hilariously bad. I saw a few adults trying to floss which was a high point.
Gemma wore a gorgeous dress with off the shoulder detail, lace and her veil was just stunning. Kieran wore a grey jacket which was just perfect for the theme, black jeans and shoes from Eves & Gray and they both looked perfect. Gemma’s dress was from White Rose Bridal Rooms in Reading. Kieran’s suit was so unique, and I loved that he was brave enough to wear jeans on his wedding day.
The couple met at work in 2011 and have officially been together for three years, but the best of friends for eight years. I loved photographing their wedding and they both felt like my friend by the end.
The couple says that if you’re planning your wedding, the biggest piece of advice they could give you is be relaxed and calm, accept that it may not all go completely smoothly through the whole planning process, know your budget, but understand and accept that you are likely to go over it!, also enjoy every moment!
Gemma and Kieran’s wedding was everything I love about weddings and just the happiest occasion. Here’s their stunning wedding!
